FLAGSTAFF, AZ - A Sedona-area man will pay $500 of restitution after pleading guilty to illegally building mountain bike jumps on Coconino National Forest land.
The Arizona Daily Sun reports that 20-year-old Tyler Gavigan had faced being fined up to $5,000, being jailed for six months and banned from the forest.
Gavigan pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court. He was cited last September for building jumps on forest land near his home.
The Forest Service says the site on a steep hillside required extensive work to prevent erosion.
The case is the latest instance of people doing illegal trail work on forest land in the Sedona area.
That has Forest Service officials considering whether to allow mountain bike riding only on trails in the forest immediately around Sedona.
