WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has named Sens. Jon Kyl of Arizona, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Rob Portman of Ohio to the powerful new committee that will try to come up with a bipartisan plan this fall to reduce the federal budget deficit by more than $1 trillion.
House Speaker John Boehner has named GOP Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas to co-chair the group. Boehner also named Reps. Dave Camp and Fred Upton, both of Michigan, to the committee.
On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid named Washington Sen. Patty Murray as the other co-chair.
Kyl issued a statement to ABC15 on Wednesday morning, reading, "I’m honored to be selected to serve on the committee. As we move forward in complying with the committee’s mandate to reduce spending, it’s my hope that in all things we do, we’re promoting economic growth and job-creation."
