PHOENIX - Count Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer as among those who think the electoral college is outdated and that the United States should instead pick its president by  the nationwide popular vote's winner.

Brewer says it's disappointing that a small number of battleground states effectively decide the presidential race's outcome.

President Barack Obama won the popular vote narrowly Tuesday while winning the electoral vote comfortably, thanks to decisive wins over Mitt Romney in most battleground states.

Brewer says switching to electing presidents by the popular vote would give all voters a sense that their votes count and mean that more states get attention during the presidential campaign.

Brewer spoke with reporters after a public appearance Friday. She was noncommittal when asked whether she'd push for a change in the nation's election system.
