PHOENIX - Arizona volunteers are heading to Orlando hoping to provide relief to people who could potentially be affected by Tropical Storm Isaac that is expected to hit Florida early next week.
Three volunteers from the American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter, Vic Hencken, 64, of Prescott, Regina Crandall, 48, of Maricopa, and Larry Webb, 63, of Chandler all departed at different times within the last few days.
"We're going down early and not waiting for the hurricane to happen" Crandall said. "We're proactive, as opposed to reactive." She also added that "it's rewarding to know that you're helping someone. You don't see who you're helping, but you know that you're helping someone."
Tropical Storm Isaac is forecast to hit Southwestern Florida on Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm has already swept by countries south of Florida.
Hundreds of other Red Cross workers from around the country are gathering in Florida, and the Red Cross is ready to open dozens of shelters across the state.
