PHOENIX - Arizona law enforcement officers say they arrested nearly 400 people statewide on suspicion of driving while intoxicated during the first half of the Labor Day weekend.
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety released enforcement statistics Sunday. The numbers show 382 DUI arrests had been made since Wednesday.
Nearly one third of the arrests were for extreme DUI, which involves a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent or higher. Nearly two dozen of those arrested had prior DUI arrests and 40 were classified as aggravated DUI.
The numbers are down from last year's Labor Day DUI enforcement, when police arrested 617 people.
The director of the Office of Highway Safety, Alberto Gutier, tells the Arizona Republic that Monday is the big day for keeping people safe.
He expects this year's numbers to increase as enforcement continues.
