PEORIA, AZ - Nearly a dozen Arizona law enforcement agencies are teaming up with Arizona Automobile Theft Authority by hosting free events to help prevent auto theft and burglary in our state.

It’s all to celebrate the 7th Annual Auto Theft Prevention & Awareness Week.

The first event, which will be hosted by the Peoria Police Department, kicks off this Saturday in the parking lot of Target on N. Lake Pleasant Parkway in Peoria.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Several state departments will be on hand at the events to provide free services including, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching, and information about programs to help protect your vehicle.

According to the Peoria Police Department, Arizona reported 21,250 stolen cars in 2010.

Despite declining numbers, Arizona ranks eighth in the U.S. for vehicle theft rate.
