PHOENIX - State flags in Arizona will be flown at half-staff Friday in remembrance of Justice Michael Ryan.
Justice Ryan passed away Monday after an apparent heart attack.
He was 66.
Ryan spent 24 years as a judge working his way up to the Arizona Supreme Court.
Governor Jan Brewer ordered flags to be lowered and issued a statement.
"It is this honor and distinction that led Justice Ryan to earn two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star during a tour as a Marine in Vietnam,” the statement said.
It continues: “Today, I invite all Arizonans to join me in offering a prayer for Justice Michael Ryan and his family and friends. In tribute to Justice Ryan, I have ordered that all state flags be flown at half-staff on the day of his memorial services - Friday, February 3, 2012 - as well as the day of his burial at Arlington National Cemetery."
