SURPRISE, AZ - Authorities say a man was hit in the head with a hatchet, and two others were hurt in an altercation Wednesday afternoon in Surprise.
Surprise fire division chief Autry Cheatham said the incident took place around 2 p.m. near Litchfield and Greenway roads.
Bert Anzini with the Surprise Police Department said the incident began with an argument between neighbors.
One neighbor reportedly hit the other neighbor in the face with a hatchet.
Anzini said the man who was hit with the hatchet retrieved a gun and began to shoot.
A woman was shot in the abdomen, according to Anzini.
Cheatham said another man was somehow hurt, but refused to go to a hospital.
Identities of those involved have not been released as of Wednesday night.
