SURPRISE, AZ - Two pit bulls attacked and seriously hurt a West Valley woman Monday night.

“I don’t know exactly if she came to the door or if she was already outside. Regardless, the dogs were able to get to her and cause some serious injuries,” said Surprise police Lt. Randy Rody.

EMS responded to the neighborhood near Reems and Bell roads around 8:30 p.m., said Surprise Fire Department Battalion Chief Autry Cheatham.

Cheatham said a woman in her 70’s was injured on her arms, legs and shoulders. The more serious injury was on one of her legs, right below her knees.

She was flown to West Valley hospital with serious injuries.

While trying to distract the animals, one of the neighbors was also bitten in the arm.

He was treated and released on scene.

A second neighbor, who is an off-duty Phoenix police officer, shot and killed both pit bulls, according to Cheatham.
