DPS: 1 dead, 4 hurt in 3-car wreck on Loop 303 in Surprise

SURPRISE, AZ - A man is dead and a woman seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on a freeway in Surprise, west of Phoenix.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the 3:30 p.m. Friday crash closed the northbound lanes of the Loop 303 for several hours.

They say a man taken to a hospital after the accident later died. His name wasn't immediately released.

DPS says a helicopter transported a woman with life-threatening injuries to a Phoenix hospital.

Four other people were treated at the crash scene.
