SUN CITY WEST, AZ - Burglars targeted a Valley home over Memorial Day weekend and stole a military ring that dates back to World War II.
The ring belonged to Col. Wayne Winder, who served during World War II. He passed away several years ago and the ring stayed with his daughter, Sharon.
“Just having something from the past that was his, that was important to me,” Sharon said. She and her husband, Dennis, asked us to not reveal their last names.
The couple told ABC15 the crooks broke in sometime on Sunday, while they were out of town. They said the burglars took a TV, jewelry and the military ring, which the couple said holds very little monetary value.
Sharon and Dennis said it is even more heartbreaking that the ring was stolen over Memorial Day weekend.
“You think of all the servicemen who have given so much and what do people have left,” Sharon said. “I had pictures and the ring. ”
She said at the very least, she still has several old, black and white photos of her father to help his memory live on. Even if they don’t get the ring back, the family said they still have a lot to remember of Col. Winder.
“It’ll be good memories of him,” Dennis said.
If you have any information on this case, you are urged to call police.
