SUN CITY - Authorities say a bicyclist suffered serious injuries after she was struck by a bus in the northwest Valley Friday morning.
Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Chris Hegstrom said in an e-mail the victim was air-lifted to a Valley hospital.
The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. near 111th and Grand avenues in Sun city.
Hegstrom told ABC15 that the bus was headed southbound on 111th Avenue coming through a green light and upon a bus stop on the other side of the light when it struck a 38-year-old female bicyclist headed eastbound on Grand Avenue.
He said there wasn't enough room for the bicyclist on the roadway as the bus pulled over to the bus stop.
Hegstrom said the woman's leg became trapped under the bus. She is expected to survive her injuries.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours for the investigation.
