SUN CITY, AZ - Apartments in a Sun City neighborhood had to be evacuated after an elderly man fired several shots Tuesday night.
Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Sprong said the son of a man who suffers from dementia came to check on him and the older man pulled out a gun.
The son left and when deputies showed up the elderly man had a shotgun.
Deputies left the apartment and the man fired three rounds in an unknown direction. No one was struck.
The surrounding apartments at the complex near 107th and Peoria avenues were evacuated and SWAT officers responded.
They blew the door to the apartment off and sent in a robot to see if the man was still alive inside.
Sprong said the man was taken into custody around 8 p.m.
No one was injured in the incident.
