PEORIA, AZ - A woman has died after an apartment fire in Peoria early Thursday morning.
Peoria spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said when firefighters arrived at the complex near 91st and Peoria avenues there was a lot of smoke in the apartment but not a lot of fire.
The fire was put out quickly.
The approximately 30-year-old female occupant was taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. She was later pronounced dead.
Many of the apartments nearby are vacant so no other residents were displaced.
Jacinto said that at this point the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire which is now under investigation.
