PEORIA, AZ - A 15-year-old-boy accused of shooting three people at a Peoria smoke shop is back in the Valley after being extradited from Los Angeles.
Tyson Langley arrived at the Peoria Police Department around 8 p.m. Friday night.
He showed little emotion and said nothing as he was lead inside.
Langley will be charged as an adult in the murders of Kenneth Matlock and Melinda Bowen.
Legal expert Vladimir Gagic, who is a defense attorney, said by statute the prosecutor has no choice but to charge the teen as an adult in this case.
"Anyone who is 15-years old who is involved in a violent crime is automatically charged as an adult," he said. "Being that he is 15-years old he has a better chance than say a 35-year-old of getting out. But based on what I've read and considering the heinous nature of the crime, it wouldn't surprise me if he spent the rest of his life in prison."
Langley invoked his right to remain silent.
"It makes his case better that there is no confession," said Gagic "It is quite astonishing that someone 15-years old has the presence of mind to invoke his right to counsel."
Langley was arrested in Los Angeles Thursday. Police said he was found sleeping on skid row after he fled Tuesday's robbery and shooting at the store near Deer Valley and Lake Pleasant Parkway.
"We may never know the motive," said Jay Davies, spokesperson for the Peoria Police Department.
Davies said that Langley is invoking his right to remain silent and is not answering questions about what happened Tuesday.
Police were able to track Langley from witness accounts and surveillance tape. Davies said after stealing one of the victim's trucks, Langley bought a bus ticket to L.A.
An officer in L.A. was able to recognize him from the alert Peoria police issued.
"He was a sweet guy but shy and didn't talk much," classmate Addison Kritkausky said of Langley.
Langley was a sophomore at Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Phoenix. He apparently was a good student and on the wrestling team. Police said he has no juvenile record.
"When this first happened we thought we were going to be looking for an 18- or 19-year-old," said Davies. "We were surprised that he was only 15."
Matlock and Bowen were killed in the shooting. The third person who was shot is still recovering.
