The Department of Defense announced Thursday the death of a Peoria sailor who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Chief Petty Officer Christian Michael Pike, 31, died March 13 in Landstuhl, Germany, as a result of combat-related injuries he suffered fighting in Afghanistan.

Pike was assigned to a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare unit.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Friday in honor of Pike.
