LAVEEN, AZ - Police have arrested a man in connection with an overnight shooting at a Laveen home that has left a woman hospitalized in serious condition.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said 32-year-old Francisco Torrez was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities had launched a search for the suspect after the victim was found shot twice at a home near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road around 1:15 a.m.
She was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
According to Thompson, the victim had separated from Torrez, a former boyfriend, and obtained an order of protection against him, but early Tuesday allowed him to come over to their home.
The pair reportedly began to argue and Torrez shot the victim. Thompson said Torrez then fled the scene on foot.
Police launched an early morning search for the suspect, but were unable to apprehend him. Thompson told ABC15 officers took Torrez into custody Tuesday afternoon.
Four children were inside the West Valley home at the time of the incident, but it is unclear if they witnessed the shooting.
