GLENDALE, AZ - Thursday the Cardinals will be kicked out of their own stadium-- but only for a day.
Soccer is moving in!
At 7:30 p.m. the Valley plays host to a big game: Real Madrid vs. the L.A. Galaxy. It's the opening round of the 2013 Guinness International Champions Cup.
ABC15 got a sneak peak at the University of Phoenix Stadium Wednesday as crews moved a soccer field in and transformed the football field.
Officials say the soccer field weighs about 18 million pounds. It was rolled in on 13 railroad tracks.
"We're real excited in terms of international soccer, it doesn't get any better than Real Madrid and the L.A. Galaxy," said Scott Norton with the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Meanwhile out on the soccer field it's all anyone's talking about.
"That is a big deal. I can't tell you. Like I'm posting on Facebook, all my friends from Ethiopia and all over Africa, they're like, 'oh it's there in your hometown!'" said Dawit Tessema.
Tessema and his friends, many of them immigrants from Ethiopia, meet at a Phoenix park twice a week for their soccer club.
They've been counting down the days to this game.
"It's a really big deal. Cristiano Ronaldo, he used to be in Manchester United. So now we have a chance to see him," Tessema said.
Tickets are still on sale for the big game. They range from $40-$200.
