GLENDALE, AZ - Glendale police say a 16-year-old student at Maryvale High School and his 23-year-old passenger died Sunday morning when the car they were riding in crashed into a power pole.

Officer Ted Yoder said the accident happened around 6:50 a.m. near 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Yoder said Alexander Brizuela,16, and his passenger Claudia Ontiveros, 23, were driving northbound on 67th Avenue when the Jeep Patriot they were riding in veered off the road and struck a power pole.

Authorities said Brizuela and Ontiveros both died at the scene.

Yoder said Brizuela is a student at Maryvale High School. Ontiveros owned the Jeep the two were riding in.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
