PHOENIX - A Glendale man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted child abuse in the death of his girlfriend's baby daughter in 2011.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 23-year-old Miguel Angel Garcia entered his plea Friday. He's scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 14.
Authorities say Garcia was babysitting his girlfriend's four young children at an apartment while she was at work on Dec. 11, 2011.
Garcia told Glendale police that the 15-month-old girl was crying and he wrapped her in a blanket and put her face down inside a closet.
Police say Garcia told them the baby was unresponsive when he went to check on her about five minutes later.
The child was taken to a Glendale hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Garcia originally was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
