GLENDALE, AZ - Police in Glendale are honoring a fallen comrade with a 24-hour vigil at the site where he was gunned down a year ago.
The vigil for officer Brad Jones began at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the apartment complex on 75th Avenue where he was shot. A prayer service is set for Monday morning at the city's public safety memorial on Glenn Drive.
Jones was shot after accompanying a probation officer who was checking up on a 20-year-old man. Jones called out for help on his police radio but police say he was shot before other officers could arrive.
The suspect jumped in Jones' patrol car and crashed as other officer chased him. He was shot and critically injured.
The police department and police officer's coalition say the public is welcome at either event.
