GLENDALE, AZ - Several people spent their Sunday outside in the sunshine and hot temperatures washing cars to raise money for an MCSO detention officer who was shot and killed earlier this month.
With sponges, soap and hoses friends and volunteers gathered at Jimbos Restaurant in Glendale, Ariz. to host a car wash to raise money for the family of 27-year-old Jorge Vargas.
The car wash runs until 1 p.m. Jimbo's Restaurant is located at 12224 N. 51st Avenue.
Vargas was shot and killed near 91st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road in the driveway of his home while apparently getting ready to go to work around 4 a.m. on Thursday, August 8.
There is an "Officer Vargas memorial fund" set up through Wells Fargo.
