Verrado High School students in Buckeye diagnosed with MRSA skin infection

BUCKEYE, AZ - Three Buckeye high school students have been diagnosed with the MRSA skin infection, according to the principal.

The principal at Verrado High told ABC15 that three boys were infected, two wrestlers from a club program and a football player.

The wrestlers' cases appear to be connected, but it's unclear how the football player picked it up.

The athletic areas were closed and sanitized and the principal said every classroom will be cleaned over the weekend to prevent an outbreak.

One student has already returned to school as of Friday, said Principal Tom Huffman, the other two are doing well at home.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a highly-contagious type of staph bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
