BUCKEYE, AZ - Police say a man injured in single vehicle accident in the West Valley on Sunday is an investigative lead into the deaths of two people found stabbed to death in a Buckeye apartment.

Buckeye police say it is estimated that Elwood Moreno, 33, was driving at speeds approaching 100 mph when his vehicle crashed into a block wall near Rainbow Road and Hilton.

When police went to Moreno's last known address to notify relatives, they found the front door of the apartment open and officers saw blood in the apartment near Baseline and Maricopa 85 Highway.

When they went inside, they found the bodies of 57-year-old Ramsey Moreno and 69-year-old Nancy Moreno, Elwood's father and stepmother.

Both had been stabbed multiple times.

Police told ABC15 that Moreno has a long arrest history dating back to 2004.

Lt. Jared Griffith with Buckeye police said that Moreno was arrested in December for aggravated assault, aggravated assault on an officer, and for threatening.

He just got out of jail earlier this month after serving time for aggravated assault.

Neighbors at the complex where they lived were saddened and shocked.

One woman told ABC15 that the couple lived there for a long time and it wasn't until recently that the son moved in.

She said that Nancy Moreno was a kind woman who helped a lot of the neighbors in that complex during tough times.

Buckeye police continue to investigate the incident.

Elwood Moreno remains hospitalized in critical condition.
