BUCKEYE, AZ - Authorities have identified a man shot and killed by police early Monday morning after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers and fired several shots.

He has been identified as Buckeye resident 21-year-old Cody Shobe.

According to Assistant Buckeye Police Chief Larry Hall, the incident happened around 12:45 a.m. at a home near Yuma and Dean roads, just south of Interstate 10.

A group of seven young adults were on the back porch for a get together when Shobe walked into the backyard and pulled out a gun, Hall said.

The suspect then introduced himself and started talking to party goers, Hall said.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators the suspect seemed paranoid at the time.

The homeowners then called 911.

When police arrived, four officers stayed downstairs, and two officers went into an upstairs bedroom to get a look at the suspect, Hall said.

After about 30 minutes of talking with Shobe, he pointed his gun at the officers and fired multiple rounds, striking the house, police said.

The officers fired back and struck the suspect. Shobe died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said Shobe lived nearby.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies and the Arizona Department of Public Safety are assisting in the investigation.
