BUCKEYE, AZ - Authorities say a Buckeye man has been arrested on two first-degree murder counts for the stabbing deaths of his father and stepmother.

Buckeye police Lt. Jared Griffith says 33-year-old Elwood Moreno was booked into jail Saturday. He had been hospitalized since the car he was driving at nearly 100 mph crashed into a block wall on Oct. 21.

When investigators went to notify Moreno's family about the crash, they found the bodies of 57-year-old Ramsey Moreno and 69-year-old Nancy Moreno inside an apartment.

Police say the couple had been stabbed multiple times.

Griffith says Elwood Moreno was living in the apartment when the killings happened. He was booked because of evidence found at the scene and statements he made to police.
