BUCKEYE, AZ - Buckeye police arrested a man late Sunday morning after he allegedly assaulted his mother and daughter.

Police responded to the scene just after 11 a.m. Sunday when 34-year-old J. Trinidad Cardenas’ sister called police regarding a domestic violence incident.

The sister reportedly told police that her brother had assaulted his 64-year-old mother, who police say had trouble walking with a cane, and his 8-year-old daughter.

When officers arrived, the three women were crying and shaken up after the incident, according to police.

Cardenas’ sister told police that Cardenas had come to pick up his daughter, but he had not been around since June and that she had been living with them instead.

Police said they were told that the women were outside on the porch with Cardenas and his daughter when Cardenas kicked her thigh, making the girl cry.

They took the girl inside to keep her safe and Cardenas reportedly got angry and entered the home looking for his daughter.

His mother told him to leave and that he wasn’t going to take his daughter from the home, according to police.

Police said Cardenas forcefully grabbed his mother who said she was scared he was going to hit her.

The women were afraid for their safety and reportedly called the police and Cardenas then left the residence.

Police responding to the scene said they observed injuries on the mother’s arms and that the young girl was limping, so Buckeye paramedics were called to the scene.

Cardenas came back to the residence while police were still there and told police during questioning that he kicked his daughter and grabbed his mother so she wouldn’t hit him, according to police.

Police arrested him and took him to the Buckeye Police Department.

Cardenas is facing charges of aggravated assault, child abuse and disorderly conduct.
