AVONDALE, AZ - Authorities have identified a man who died after he was shot by police officers in Avondale on Saturday.
The shooting occurred near 3rd Street and Western Avenue around 5 p.m.
Avondale police Sgt. Brandon Busse said officers had stopped to talk to 27-year-old RT McGinty and as they got out of their patrol vehicle McGinty began to shoot at the officers.
One officer was struck in the face. He was air-lifted to a Valley hospital where he is listed in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
Officers returned fire, striking McGinty in the chest. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Busse said the Glendale Police Department will be taking over the investigation of the shooting.
The names of the officers involved are not being released at this time.
