AVONDALE, AZ - Authorities arrested a man late Tuesday night in the Avondale area after they pursued his truck and found empty beer cans in his vehicle.

According to Maricopa County Sheriff’s spokesman Brandon Jones, the incident started out as a traffic stop on westbound Interstate 10 near Avondale around 11 p.m.

Deputies reportedly noticed 31-year-old Jorge Mendez-Perez traveling 85 mph in his truck, swerving in and out of lanes, and flashing his lights.

Mendez-Perez eventually pulled over at Dysart Road, and deputies had to force him out of the truck, Jones said.

The truck was not put in park, so it rolled into an MCSO vehicle, he said.

Deputies reportedly found nine empty cans of Bud Light beer and two full cans in the truck.

Mendez-Perez was smelling of alcohol, Jones said.

He was booked on aggravated DUI and has been identified as an illegal immigrant.
