AVONDALE, AZ - Authorities identified the drivers involved in a deadly freeway crash early Monday morning in Avondale.
The collision happened at 2:10 a.m. on westbound Interstate 10 at Dysart Road.
Donald McCreedy, 27, of Phoenix was driving a gray Ford pickup truck when he struck the rear of a white Jeep SUV, according to Officer Carrick Cook with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The driver of the Jeep was identified as 45-year-old Lewis Cole of Surprise, said Cook.
The Jeep reportedly rolled onto its roof and came to rest along the median wall after it was struck.
The pickup truck vaulted over the retaining wall and fell into the dry river bed, Cook said.
McCreedy wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, Cook said.
He was later pronounced dead.
Cook said the driver of the Jeep was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and was later released.
All westbound lanes in the area were shut down for more than four hours as crews cleared the scene.
