AVONDALE, AZ - The ice cream truck driver who was shot Thursday in Avondale is in stable condition Friday after undergoing chest surgery to treat his wounds.
Avondale police officers arrested a juvenile suspect and an accomplice in connection with the shooting around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, police say.
The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. after two suspects with a weapon demanded money from the ice cream truck driver and his wife.
The man turned away from the suspect with the weapon who then fired the gun, hitting the victim on the upper right side of his torso.
The suspects fled after the incident.
Police say they are not releasing the name of the juvenile in custody, but an investigation into the second suspect is underway.
