TEMPE, AZ - Storms rolling through the Valley Thursday caused power outages, flooding and damage to homes and businesses.
Sun City resident Myron Perlmutter said around 4:30 p.m. Thursday a large tree uprooted and fell onto his house.
Air15 video showed the 50-100 foot tree lying across the home's roof, along with another that appeared to be uprooted and lying across a back fence.
Perlmutter said no one was hurt.
Air15 also found trees uprooted at a nearby golf course.
Utility company crews worked to repair power outages affecting residents all over the Valley.
An APS spokesman said approximately 14,000 customers Valley-wide were impacted by the outages, but by Friday night said only five customers in the far West Valley remained without power. They were expected to be back up by 2 a.m.
An SRP spokesperson said that at one point they had 4,000 customers without power.
In Tempe, firefighters responded to a call of a roof collapse just before 4 p.m. Thursday near Priest and Broadway Road.
Tempe Fire Department spokesman Mike Reichling said there is a 10 by 10 foot hole in the roof of the building that employees say houses AZ Clean and Beautiful and Treasures for Teachers. He said the roof is flat and accumulating water from the storm caused the collapse.
Reichling said the drainage on the roof may not have been working properly. Three offices in the building were safely evacuated as one of the impacted walls is a main wall shared by those businesses.
Flights scheduled to depart from Sky Harbor Airport were delayed for about 20 minutes Thursday afternoon.
Airport spokeswoman Claire Simeone said about 30 outbound flights were affected. She said takeoffs resumed just before 4 p.m.
Air15 video showed flooded streets in the West Valley. Cars were seen slowly working their way through flooding at 67th Avenue and Greenway Road around 5:45 p.m.
According to officials with the City of Glendale, 99th Avenue between Bethany Home Road and Glendale Avenue is closed while crews work to repair damage to power lines. The road is expected to be closed until Sunday evening.
Also, 69th Avenue north of Bell Road is closed due to flooding.
