TEMPE, AZ - Three groups of students from ASU are vying to be named college entrepreneur of the year.
Entrepreneur Magazine names five finalists for the College Entrepreneur of 2011. Three of the five groups are from ASU.
Ellens Technologies, G3Box and Boson Inc. are the local companies named as finalists.
The G3Box is a converted medical clinic from steel shipping containers.
"It's going to be a fully functional medical clinic," said Gabrielle Palermo, who heads the group.
The group plans to send the first G3Box, when completed, to Africa for use as a maternity clinic.
The second group is Boson Inc. They created new 3D technology, such as eye-ware and software that can be used by various professional fields.
"3D is the future," said Nicolas Kane with Boson. "Everything is progressing to that."
The third ASU group is Ellens Technologies, run by Jeremy Ellens. He invented an app for veterinarians to help diagnose illnesses and injuries in animals.
"We've had veterinarians reach out to us ... and tell us how excited they are," Ellens said.
Voting ends in September. The winner will be featured in a future issue of Entrepreneur Magazine and will receive a $5,000 grant.
