TEMPE, AZ - A Tempe teacher was arrested Wednesday after allegedly having sexual relations with a student.
Police spokesman Michael Pooley said 36-year-old Nicole Wooten has been charged with three counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
Pooley said Wooten is a P.E. teacher at the Herrera School for the Fine Arts and Dual Languages in Phoenix.
Authorities said the crime occurred in 2005 when the student was in the 8th grade.
According to the Associated Press, court documents show the girl was 12 at the time and the alleged incidents occurred at Wooten's residence in Mesa.
Pooley said Tempe police initially learned this information from the Phoenix Police Department at which time detectives began working the investigation.
Authorities said Wooten has been placed on unpaid leave.
