TEMPE, AZ - Authorities say a man is dead and a woman is in critical condition following a multi-vehicle crash in Tempe.
The accident occurred near Rural and Baseline roads Saturday afternoon.
Tempe police spokesman Jeff Glover said the series of accidents began when a Nissan pickup truck northbound on Rural Road sideswiped a Prius, bounced off a curb and rear-ended a Honda minivan.
The pickup truck then veered into the median and rolled into a utility pole.
The crash caused a loss of power to a nearby store.
The man driving the pickup died at the scene and his female passenger is in critical condition, Glover said.
The one person in the Prius and three people in the minivan did not sustain life-threatening injuries, according to Glover.
The road was shut down for several hours for the investigation.
