TEMPE, AZ - Authorities say Interstate 10 is back open after a deadly crash involving a semi-truck shut down traffic in both directions Thursday morning.

The collision occurred near Southern Avenue on the Broadway Curve just before 5:30 a.m.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the driver of the semi-truck was killed.

Officer Carrick Cook said the crash happened when the driver of the semi lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and when it crashed into the median wall that sent debris into the westbound lanes, striking two vehicles.

A third vehicle hit the semi-truck after it crashed.

Video showed the cargo area of the big rig on one side of the freeway and the cab over the median wall on the other side of the freeway.

A half hour after the crash, firefighters were still putting out flames in the back of the truck.

Cook called the crash a "chaotic scene."

We talked to several drivers who were stuck in traffic for hours.

One man was trying to get home to Tucson to feed his dogs and said it was a nightmare.

He said he thought he would be in the clear after Wednesday's big crash, but ended up caught in the same kind of traffic.

Another said he got stuck in gridlock trying to get to work two days in a row.
