Arizona State University police are finding innovative ways to patrol the Tempe campus.
Michael Roper with the ASU Police Department said a Valley business donated two Piagios to the department.
Roper describes the rides as a snowmobile with wheels instead of skis.
“We could not find in the nation any police training for these so we put together our own training program,” said Roper.
The police department is using the Piagio because it allows officers to get around a crowded campus easier and faster similar to the Segways officers also use.
“They give us great visibility and access to places we can't get to during the day in a car and plus it gives us the chance to meet and talk to the public much more than it would in a vehicle,” said Roper.
About 40 officers still use bicycles to patrol the campus as well.
