MESA, AZ - Voters will soon decide if Russell Pearce should maintain his seat in the Arizona State Senate.

It’s the first time in nearly a century a state legislator has faced a recall election.

Pearce faces Jerry Lewis in the recall election in Legislative District 18 and both men spent the weekend doing some last minute campaigning.

The race has been controversial and heated at times.

At one point a third candidate, Olivia Cortes, entered the race. Amid speculation she was a sham candidate to pull votes away from Lewis, Cortes stepped out of the race.

Cortes’ name will remain on the ballot because they had already been printed.

Pearce and Lewis are both republicans.

Stay with ABC15 and ABC15.com Tuesday for results in the race.
