MESA, AZ - Police say a 16-year-old male has been arrested for shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother Monday afternoon in Mesa.
According to Sgt. Ed Wessing with Mesa Police, the shooting happened in a home near Hawes and Baseline roads.
An active search for the unidentified suspect began around 3:30 p.m. and lasted a couple hours.
The suspect was located in an apartment complex near Superstition Springs Mall and arrested without incident, Wessing said.
Police say the 42-year-old victim’s daughter used to date the suspect.
She was reportedly shot in the head in the laundry room of the home.
The woman was initially in life-threatening condition but later died from her injuries.
During the search, Air15 video showed the area of the shooting taped off with numerous police vehicles parked throughout the neighborhood.
No names have been released as of Monday night.
