MESA, AZ - A suspect holding a woman hostage was shot and killed by Mesa police early Saturday morning.
Officers responded to a domestic violence situation after midnight to an apartment complex near Main Street and Gilbert Road, where they found a man holding the woman captive with a knife or box cutter-type object.
Officers were able to get into the apartment and safely get four children out.
About a half hour into the negotiations, something happened that led officers to shoot and kill the man.
The woman was bruised but not seriously hurt. No officers were injured.
The man's name has not been released by police yet.
