MESA, AZ - Several Mesa residents woke up to find their cars burning early Wednesday morning in what appears to be a string of arsons.
Mesa police spokesman Steve Berry told ABC15 that at least five, possibly six, vehicles were set on fire at various complexes.
They happened within a mile radius of University Drive and Dobson Road between 12:30 and 2:45 a.m.
Investigators believe the arsons may be tied to six others in Mesa and Chandler two months ago nearly two miles from the latest incident.
"It was about 2:45 a.m. and our car alarm started going off," said a woman who asked not to be identified after her car was burned. "My husband went running outside and I said what's going on and he said the car was on fire."
Investigators have made no arrests as detectives search for clues.
"There was another car near the pool that was on fire also so I was like 'oh my God, this isn't a random act,'" said the unidentified woman while standing next to her damaged car.
It's unclear at this point what is used to start the fires.
If the all of the crimes are connected, the arsonist could face several charges related to at least 11 car arsons.
