MESA, AZ - A store clerk in Mesa used pepper spray to fight off two men accused of assaulting him as they tried to get the clerk to sell cigarettes at a lower price.
Mesa police tell The Arizona Republic that an argument broke out between the clerk and one of the men who didn't have enough money to pay for the cigarettes.
The clerk refused the man's request to sell them for what he had.
Police say two other men went around the counter, and one slapped and pushed the clerk.
The clerk sprayed the man with pepper spray.
The other man approached the clerk aggressively, but backed off when the clerk displayed the pepper spray.
Jason C. Aguilera, 31, and Vincent R. Valenzuela, 19, were arrested, while the man who argued with the clerk wasn't booked.
