MESA, AZ - Two men and a woman were arrested after police say a Mesa couple came home to find the armed men in their home Wednesday afternoon.
The couple, who had been gone for a short time, returned to their residence near Gilbert Road and Quartz Street and called police after the husband went inside and saw the men, one of which had a handgun.
The suspects fled in a silver Toyota 4 Runner, and neighbors reported seeing both men with guns, according to police.
The couple said only a few items from the home were missing and no guns had been taken, leading police to believe the suspects arrived at the home with their own weapons.
A Mesa officer then spotted the suspects' vehicle pulling up to a pawn store and both suspects entering and leaving the business.
Police engaged in a pursuit as the suspects attempted to get away by driving alongside a canal, eventually stopping near Pueblo Avenue and Lindsay Road.
The two suspects, as well as a woman who was in the vehicle, were arrested after they fled on foot, according to police.
Two handguns were recovered after a search, one of which was reported as stolen.
The suspects were identified as the men who had burglarized the home earlier.
The individuals were booked on several offenses including burglary, theft of means of transportation, misconduct involving weapons, possession of dangerous drugs, and failure to stop for an emergency vehicle.
