MESA, AZ - A Mesa police officer responding to a shoplifting call shot a dog after it attacked him at a Target store Monday evening.
Mesa police said when officers arrived at the Target location at Southern Avenue and Longmore they discovered the shoplifting suspect, Samkeith Jurden, had a dog.
One of the officers fired on the animal after it attacked a responding officer.
The officer received non-life-threatening injuries, and was treated and released.
Jurden was taken into custody, and the dog died from its injuries.
