MESA, AZ - Police arrested a 21-year-old man on Sunday after he allegedly broke into a Blockbuster Video store in Mesa to steal candy.
According to Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing, the suspect, Steven Doty, broke the glass door of the Blockbuster Video store just before 4 a.m. near Ellsworth and Baseline roads with a rock and was overheard by a nearby officer patrolling the area.
The officer saw Doty hopping a wall into a nearby residential neighborhood and called additional units to the area to set up a perimeter, Wessing said.
He said Doty tried to get away but was arrested by an officer, who was waiting for Doty in a darkened police car.
Doty admitted to breaking into the Blockbuster Video store with the intent of stealing candy and was booked for burglary and criminal damage, Wessing said.
