MESA, AZ -
A 13-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Mesa on Monday morning.
Mesa Police Sergeant Ed Wessing said the girl was hit by a car in the area of Gilbert and Southern Avenue around 7:30 a.m.
Forrest Smith with the Mesa Fire Department said the girl was in a crosswalk when she was hit at a relatively high rate of speed.
Witnesses said the car had a green light and other cars had stopped for her, but the car that hit her didn't see her, according to Smith.
The girl reportedly was not wearing a bike helmet and she suffered head injuries, and arm and leg injuries.
Fire officials said she is listed in critical condition.
The driver reportedly remained at the scene and there are no signs of impairment on part of the driver.
Wessing said no criminal charges are pending, but the accident is under investigation.
