PHOENIX - A Mesa man met undercover detectives at a hotel for the sole purpose of having sex with a dog, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
James Naylor, 47, was escorted into jail around 8:30 p.m. Monday night. He is facing a bestiality charge.
Naylor is a husband and father, according to Arpaio.
Naylor told police he had been experiencing marital difficulties resulting in a year-long sexless marriage and only was looking to watch a dog in action.
Officers said Naylor posted an ad on Craigslist titled, “Bottom need hung tops – M4M” and “Willing to try hung K9 4 Fun too."
The Sheriff's Department said this arrest marks the sixth arrest of this kind involving Craigslist as the vehicle through which people interested in bestiality post ads looking for dogs as sex partners.
Undercover detectives used a picture of a dog from the animal shelter at the jail to lure the man to the hotel after a series of “negotiations” throughout the past two months.
Arpaio has written the CEO of Craigslist twice asking the company to better monitor their ads that promote criminal activity.
The sheriff says he has not heard anything back from the website.
