MESA, AZ - Five people were arrested Wednesday evening and a man was rushed to the hospital after a shooting and barricade in an East Valley neighborhood.

MCSO spokesman Brandon Jones said the incident began around 2 p.m. at a home near Broadway and Crismon roads.

According to Jones, a man in a truck approached the home and initiated a confrontation with a man outside the house. The man outside the home then opened fire at the truck, striking the driver.

Jones said deputies were called out to the residence around 2:20 p.m. and crews had the victim transported to a nearby hospital. He reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.

When deputies arrived, several people ran from the house. Authorities, believing the shooter to be barricaded inside the home, initiated a lockdown at surrounding schools.

According to Jones, no one was found inside the home, but five people were taken into custody.

Officials are still trying to determine the relationship between the suspect and victim.

The Mesa schools placed on lockdown were put on a modified leave schedule shortly after the lockdown was put in place.

The suspect's name has not been released.
