Police: 1 killed, 1 seriously hurt in Mesa shooting

MESA, AZ - A man is dead and a second person is in serious condition after they were both shot in Mesa early Tuesday.

Steve Berry with the Mesa Police Department said officers responded to Suit You Trailer Park near Main Street and Stapley Drive around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a call reporting a shooting.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found 23-year-old Jeremy Linder suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics responded and treated Linder, but Berry said he was not revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later, a second gunshot victim was located about a half mile away on Main Street.

Police believe the second victim was with Linder when the shooting occurred.

The second victim was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition as of Wednesday morning.

Area residents reported hearing yelling before shots and then a vehicle speeding from the area.

Berry said, at this time, gang activity is not suspected.
