MESA, AZ - Frontier Airlines has started offering daily, nonstop flights between Denver and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

The inaugural flight from Denver was welcomed Thursday afternoon with a water cannon salute.

Frontier is the third airline to service the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and the first to carry daily daytime service to a major metropolitan airport and international hub.

Mesa Mayor Scott Smith says the new service means East Valley travelers will be able to fly to destinations around the country and the world with a single plane change.

Denver serves as Frontier's primary hub. The airline offers service to more than 80 destinations in the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
